INFORMATIVE HEARING

TO PRESENT THE KARST STUDY

In compliance with Law No. 292 of August 21, 1999, known as Act for the Protection and Preservation of Puerto Rico's Karst Region (hereinafter referred to as Act 292) and the Organic Act of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (hereinafter referred to as the Department), Law No. 23 of June 20, 1972, as amended, an informative hearing will be held at the above-mentioned date and place.  In said hearing The Karst Study will be presented to the people.

The purpose of holding the informative hearing will be to present and explain the Karst Study.  The aforesaid study represents the technical document that will provide the basis for the amendments to the Regulations to govern the excavation, removal, and dredging of the earth's crust (Regulations 6916), and the zoning regulations (today qualification) of the Planning Board for those areas of the karst region that should be conserved, in accordance to Law 292, supra.

The above-mentioned study is presented to the people as corollary of the right to freedom of speech and the right of access to public information as it is explicitly encouraged by Section 4 of Article II of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Copies of the Study will be available for public review at the Office of the Clerk (First Floor) and the Library of the DNER (Fourth Floor) in the DNER's Main Office in Dr. Cruz A. Matos building, located at El Cinco Sector, Road No. 8838, Km. 6.3, in Río Piedras and in the following Regional Offices:

Those concerned may visit the Regional Offices, as well as the Main Office from 8:00am to 12:00m and from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on working days. The document will also be available at the DNER web page at the following address: http://www.drna.gobierno.pr/estudio_carso.  Written comments only will be received at the Office of the Clerk until the day of the public hearing, or through the e-mail comentariosec@drna.gobierno.pr until the day of the public hearing. Comments must be presented in digital form (Word Program or compatible format.) The Department will acknowledge receipt of commentaries filed digitally by sending an e mail within the next two working days of receiving them.
